We are absolutely passionate about coffee and love crafting a beautiful cup, connecting people and sharing their stories. With this passion comes the responsibility to build a more equitable coffee supply chain where we create value, share benefits and support our coffee growers, partners, customers and employees.

Core to building an equitable supply chain is our sourcing strategy, projects at origin, and the services we offer to our customers.

SOURCING

We follow strict principles when sourcing our coffees:

Women in Coffee

23 Degrees is a female owned and led roasting business. Our stunning coffees are crafted and roasted by one of the most amazing and talented roastresses in Australia. Naturally we want women in coffee to thrive. Most of the world’s coffee is produced in countries where women don’t have equitable opportunities. We want to bring awareness and give women coffee growers the opportunity to access new markets, showcase their talent, take charge of their lives and receive a direct income to build a better

future for themselves and their families.

We have therefore committed to source at least 50 percent of our coffee purchases from women coffee producers around the world. Our dedicated ‘Mrs. Robinson’ Seasonal Espresso Blend and our Women Coffee Growers single origins showcase outstanding coffees produced by women.

Transparency, Prices and Partnerships

Wherever we can we buy directly from our coffee farmers. We visit our coffee farmers, walk the farms, meet their families, employees, taste and assess their coffees and learn about their incredible stories. We negotiate prices directly and work in partnership with our coffee growers to ensure the prices we pay cover the cost of production, investments and generate a sufficient profit for the farmers and their families. We continue to work hard to establish trusting and transparent partnerships with our green bean importers through which we also buy coffees. Our importers must share

similar values on building an ethical and equitable supply chain, have roots themselves to coffee growing regions and be transparent in prices paid upstream.

We source only coffees which meet our quality standards and want our farmers to be remunerated to pursuing the same goal. We therefore pay prices well above commodity and Fairtrade prices to our farmers, with a minimum floor price set being the Fairtrade price for coffee.

Quality

In the pursuit of sourcing and roasting the best cup of coffee for our customers, we source specialty grade coffee from around the world giving

our customers access to the unique flavour profiles of the different coffee regions.

Environmentally Friendly Farming

Coffee growers around the world have been largely impacted by the effects of climate change. At the same time farmers have been large contributors to climate change through excessive deforestation and clearance of land. We are committed to source at least 50 percent of environmentally

friendly coffees from farmers dedicated to the environment through environmentally friendly cultivation and processing practices, and reforestation and bird habitat initiatives.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Creating value and sharing benefits goes far beyond sourcing through an ethical supply chain. Together with other forward- thinking organisations we are working on programs which help educate and enable farmers and their communities to create opportunities and improve livelihoods.
